A powerful memoir that perfectly captures the transition from childhood innocence to the rigors of military service. Yaegel’s depiction of Catholic school and neighborhood life in Delaware County is spot-on. His journey into the Army felt authentic and brought back memories of my own service—a truly relatable and gripping read.

This isn’t just a biography; it’s a time capsule of post-war America. The details of 1950s suburbia—from the coal furnaces to the party lines—are incredible. I felt completely transported—an invaluable personal perspective on the era that shaped the Greatest Generation and their children.
